'Disappointed' Djokovic leaves Australia after losing deportation fight (France24/Reuters)

Novak Djokovic, the No.1-ranked player in men's tennis, boarded a plane and left Australia on Sunday after the Federal Court upheld a government decision to cancel his visa on the grounds that his decision not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 posed a risk to the country.

After a roller-coaster ride of events, the unanimous ruling by a three-judge bench dealt a final blow to Djokovic's hopes of chasing a record 21st Grand Slam win at the Australian Open.

The Serbian player went to the airport in Melbourne just hours after the decision. Federal agents escorted him and his team from the business lounge to the gate, where he boarded an Emirates flight bound for Dubai. The flight took off shortly before 11 pm (1200 GMT).
