Election law experts and civil rights advocates called on the Michigan Board of Canvassers to certify election results during an online press conference Friday, saying the canvassers' role is largely a technical one.
"Their duties are ministerial and they must act," John Pirich, an election law attorney who teaches at the Michigan State University College of Law, said during the press conference hosted by the Michigan ACLU. "It's so clear under the law what they have to do."...
Also on Friday, the staff of the Michigan Board of Canvassers released a report recommending that the 4-member board certify the election results, saying that the allegations of voting irregularities affecting results was not accurate.
Rebutting Trump's allegations of fraud in Detroit, the report said the city of Detroit had fewer problems with out-of-balance precincts this November election than in the August primary and the 2016 November general election. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan made similar points earlier this week, saying the vote tally was 99.9% accurate.
