(10,291 posts)He is a lawyer (family law and personal injury as his main specialties), not a theologian.
If the guidelines for dealing with a rebellious child as outlined in Deuteronomy 21:18-21, then he needs to take some other items from Deuteronomy and apply them too:
1) Hungry people on your land, obtaining food? Deut. 23:24-35 says it's OK.
2) Taking a loan from one of your fellow countrymen? No interest can be charged - per Deut. 23:19-20
3) That poor worker you hired and who needs their wages? Pay up or it's a sin against the Lord, per Deut. 24:14-15
4) Find something belonging to someone else? Gotta return it per Deut. 22:1-4
5) Someone owes you money on the Sabbath Year? Forgive that debt, per Deut. 15:1-3
6) Find someone in need and you have the capability of loaning someone that money? Give that money, even if the 7th year is near, per Deut. 15:12-18
I could go on. Deuteronomy also goes on and cites things like not mixing seeds when planting (there goes genetically modified seeds), don't wear cotton and wool together in a garment, forbidding cross-dressing, eating only food that is considered "kosher", stoning those folk who "sleep around", oh and those pesky things called the Ten Commandments.
