Spouting off that you could give two shits about 47 percent of the nation pops to mind.

Self deprecation is an excellent way to diffuse criticism. Unlike the more pompous, self-important candidates (Bush, Romney), Obama is not too proud to laugh at himself. For this he deserves applause.
