The state Department of Education’s decision to stand firm on Hillsborough County’s move open the year without in-person classes continued to reverberate on Tuesday. Hillsborough officials got a look at how much their action might cost the schools. Pinellas County board members who had been reconsidering their own plan took a look at what happened to the east, and chose instead to stay the course. They weren’t alone. Nervous parents and teachers, meanwhile, kept agitating for the seemingly more elusive online-only plan. Read on for the latest.

What’s $23 million a month worth to a district? That’s the amount Hillsborough schools might not get if they stick to the currently adopted reopening plan. There’s another board meeting set for Thursday.

Without that kind of money, a system might face ‘draconian cuts.’ Such a possibility kept the Pinellas board from following Hillsborough’s lead. • The Polk County School Board also didn’t change its Aug. 24 opening day, the Ledger reports. • Palm Beach County board members said they’re prepared to adopt a new reopening plan after the state rejected their first proposal, the Palm Beach Post reports. • Hendry County district officials changed their plans, too, after learning the state hadn’t approved their online-only approach, the Daily Beast reports.
