7. the real problem with the photo ID was the backup data

to get it. You had to have a birth certificate or other document proving your citizenship. Lots of old folks around here who can't produce that info because they were born before official birth certificates. Often the only documentation was the family Bible.

However we do have a workaround here: Anyone over 65 can apply for and receive a vote by mail form. Fill it out, send it back and then every ballot for every election for the rest of the year is sent to the voter. No photo ID. If you are on the registry you will get the application and once you return it you are good to go.

AND the Texas Democratic Party has been identifying Democratic voters who qualify for these ballots and sending the applications to them automatically every January. Our Vote by Mail numbers have increased dramatically since this began. Since we do not register by party here, it can be hit or miss with finding everyone but if folks have voted in D primaries, they are on the list.

I used this for a while because I work a precinct different from my own. NOW we have the ability to vote in any precinct on election day so I can vote wherever they send me to work.
