In reply to the discussion: Dr Pepper Facebook Ad Ignites Evolution Debate [View all]Liberalynn
(7,549 posts)95. I did have a younger priest tell me a few years back
that the Bible is important but does not necessarily have to be taken literally. He said for instance the flood: "Did it rain exactly forty days and forty nights, we don't know. Suffice it to say it rained a lot." He also said that the bible was written by men who had their own prejudices of the time, which were reflected in the work. He said God may have inspired the bible but he didn't write it himself.
So that was interesting to get his take on it.
I used to be a Catholic, I am now more of an agnostic bordering on atheism. I, however, fully believe in Evolution. Far too much evidence to deny.

Adam & Eve had only sons, no daughters, or so it is written. But logic escapes their descendants. nt

Funny how it's almost exclusively white people who believe they came from Adam and Eve,...

Bingo, it reminded me of the whole Mormon - "rule your own planet" myth too.

Almost 50% believe in young earth creationism. Most of the rest believe in "guided" evolution. nt
