Did the employer provide health insurance? Did the employer withhold taxes (income, social security, medicare) and file all the proper forms? Or was the person treated as a contractor, then did the employer submit the proper 1099 forms to the employee and to the government?

I don't think Eric can just fire the people and wash his hands of this.
