Response to marble falls (Reply #5)

7. Guess so, and apparently took a mental vacation

in the last three weeks as the polls started bouncing like ping-pong balls, responding to FBI actions and blizzards of social media lies from two continents. Research indicates most people make up their minds around early summer or so, so perhaps it was a prolonged vacation?

Partisanship? Definitely a double-edged sword. Like the religious beliefs it has a lot in common with, in small doses it can help strengthen conviction and focus in a complex world and make us better, more involved citizens. It can also very quickly get out of control, strengthening what is worst in us, and be used like a ring in our noses to lead us down paths we'd never have chosen before.

Vulnerability to brainwashing with lies? Sigh.

Fatal levels of other cluelessness? Not managing to see or hold onto the big picture, its principles and goals, and thus easily distracted/mislead by frivolities? Voting third party or not voting to spite people who diss their opinions on a social media forum? Just last night someone talking about the partisan squabbling here on DU threatened losing "potentially Democratic constituencies." (God!!!)

As Michelle says, "'What is going on in our heads where we let that happen?'
