He's never bothered with logic or rationale when it comes to anything, and his reasons for wanting to end the investigations are obviously rooted in a guilty conscience and a desire to escape consequences. The republicans have to either follow him into denouncing perfectly defensible law enforcement practices, or risk pissing off the deplorables.
