In reply to the discussion: GOP pros fret over Paul Ryan [View all]Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)17. I don't agree. First off, Ryan is known to most voters, he's spent years making sure of that.
For a House member, he's already really well known and that is a result of self promotion efforts on his part. Those that don't know his face certainly do know his budget.
The 2016 part, well, few losing VPs are ever candidates for any major office again. In 4 years, he's Palin. Why you assume he'd be frontrunner is beyond me. Name a losing VP candidate who was a frontrunner in the next cycle. I can not think of even one. Much less one who became the nominee....he'll be Quayle, Ferraro, Jack Kemp (I had to google 'Dole running mate' to recall his name) or any of the other losing VP candidates that vanish into obscurity.

I think the Obama campaign, in particular, has done an exception job defining Paul Ryan.

Exactly. They fear discussing their true ideology. Truth would kill their brand.

It HAS to be about "ideas" - they sure don't want it to be about their results

Only the loyal Republicans are going to go on record as saying Ryan is a good pick.
