(53,998 posts)It wasn't an isolated incident, an impression that headlines tend to give sometimes. It was the crowning achievement on a wide range of intolerable behavior. I'm still not sure this wasn't a violation of free speech rights--something that should be enjoyed by everyone in every country. Free speech is an inalienable right. The racist fans should've been tossed out of the stadium for un-Olympic like behavior. But fining a guy for expressing intolerable ideas seems like a violation of his natural rights.
I can't agree with the idea that the fine is only "their country, their rules." He harmed no one and shouldn't be prosecuted under law. He was a sleezy punk and should've been ejected for his incivility, but that's entirely different than fining and jailing a man for having obnoxious ideas.
