Early life[edit]

Guilfoyle was born in San Francisco to a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish father. She grew up in the Mission District and Westlake and is a graduate of Mercy High School. Guilfoyle's mother, Mercedes, taught special education, and died of leukemia when Guilfoyle was eleven. Her father, Tony, was born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, and came to the U.S. at the age of 20. After serving 4 years in the US Army, he took up work in the construction trades. He later became a real estate investor and a close advisor to Mayor Newsom, until his death in 2008. Known as the "Godfather" in inner political circles his mantra was "For The People".[3][4]
