The past Iowa Caucus contender plans on rallying local activists for the final stretch of Kurths special election, and he will also host another Eastern Iowa event still being set up. This is OMalleys second visit to Davenport for a special election in just over a month. He flew out in December to assist now-Senator Jim Lykam in his special election to replace Joe Seng, who passed away last September. When Lykam won that seat, his House seat came open, which Kurth is now running for. OMalleys earlier visit came in the middle of a snowstorm. The long-range forecast looks slightly better this time around. Although OMalley passed on launching a bid to chair the Democratic National Committee, he has continued traveling the country in the past few months. OMalley spoke at a Utah Democrats fundraiser last week and plans on participating in the Womens March in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. Kurth is a community college professor in Davenport. Her Republican opponent is Michael Gonzalez, the same person who ran against Lykam and received 25% in that race.
