Their last effort to take-stock in themselves and their "post-mortem" recommendations were completely ignored. Now that they're scraping the bottom of the barrel, and they find themselves face down in a gutter filled with who-knows-what, they might just be motivated enough to do something.

Oh! Silly me! Who am I kidding?!

They'll do as they always do and double-down!
