(13,390 posts)I know that I may have been less bothered by the smear tactics if MN didn't have a Democratic governor. That is driven by partisanship. It's not ridiculous for either party to want to ensure they have a majority. But, it's silly to pretend that the strategy is different or superior based on who is being defended. No matter who supporters are trying to protect from fallout from sexual harassment scandals, supporters have consistently appealed to the same power structure and strategies that protect powerful men of all stripes.
There should be no shame in acknowledging that apeals to a system and strategies in place that protect a patriarchal political system have been employed universally. There certainly wouldn't be if one were to acknowledge that it has put all women at a disadvantage. Pretending to be different from others who take advantage of it prevents one from credibly talking about the legitimacy and superiority of partisan differences. Those are the arguments that need to be made as elections are approaching.
