14. It depends

If you marry a citizen in the US while you are in the US illegally, whether or not you are green card eligible depends on whether or not you entered the country legally and overstayed (which is easy to get past) or if you entered the country illegally (coming across a border without permission). The latter is actually a crime, which can prevent you from being eligible for a green card. Furthermore, even if you entered legally, if you have caught overstaying your visa, that can be a significant barrier to a green card.
