can't remember what he said. Either way, it is clear evidence of his unfitness for the office to which he was elected.
Personally, I suspect that he had nothing to do with the press release. I think he leaves such things to others. However, if he did use such language in a press release and cannot remember doing so, then I'm concerned about the state of his health. Forgetting things that are important is a symptom of some issues often associated with advanced age.

Ron Ziegler (Nixon) had "Inoperative statements." Euphemism for lies which didn't hold up.
