They look at your extra curricular activities, volunteerism, accomplishments, etc. as well. This young lady showed poise, confidence, and courage on a national and international stage. She could write a book on her experiences and who she has met. How many "similar scores" can say that? She went to an elite academic school and partially homeschooled. She has had access to excellent educational experiences. What part of any of this would not make her highly competitive on her OWN merits?

She could have gone anywhere. I'm sure Harvard is extremely happy that she accepted their offer.
