50. Yes. When I was growing up (in the SF Bay Area) I didn't know

the politics of my parents' friends and acquaintances. Well, it turns out most of them turned out to be rabid racists/rightwingers/Republicans who complain about "illegals." They are that Eisenhower generation -- mid-70s to mid-80s. I don't know if they were always like that or if they changed.

I think they grew up in a USA where the White Man was unquestionably King of All. So, in a way, a lot of this is a reaction to their perceived change in status. However, my Gen X peers who are rabid rightwingers are a bit of a mystery. I think a lot of them were what we used to call "Reagan Youth" in the early-mid 80s who never gave up their preppy, conservative ways.
