In reply to the discussion: Arabs’ sexual harassment in Germany and its effect on Merkel’s plans [View all]DFW
(57,112 posts)German cops are reluctant to get physical at all, ever, especially since the street cops are completely unprepared to act. They are good at getting tough on illegally parked cars or half-conscious drunks. It is a completely different situation where I live from than the one in the USA, and to my knowledge, none of the three candidates for our nomination speaks German or has lived there. Therefore, any comments they make off the cuff are likely to embarrass them by use of faulty assumptions. I applaud all 3 for not falling into this trap.
As the lone male in a family of four where the other three are self-assured German women, the last thing I need to see is their self-confidence shattered by a brutal assault on the street somewhere. Köln is just down the road (40 Km) from the Düsseldorf area, where we are, and it could just as easily have happened in our town instead. For all I know, maybe it did, but on such a small scale that we never heard about it, as we were in the States at the time.
What the USA does will have no bearing on us, where 1 million of these people are already in our midst. The USA has the luxury of having the Atlantic separating us from Europe. You can reach Greek territory from Turkey in a rowboat, and many do. Cape Cod is a different story.
