Ignoring well established academic language that has been agreed upon through several fields of scholarship, in favor of a personal definition that might be more compatible with one's personal biases may be satisfying, but it doesn't carry dialogue very far.

Exactly...in the USA the privilege is tipped against minorities and for Whites.
