(67,107 posts)My parents really weren't very religious, but I think they felt it brought niceties in life. I know my father saw religion as great for his political career, always nice to have that in ones campaign speech. Whatever, it was far different way back then, none of this BS came up in our church. It was a lot about the golden rule and all, being nice to people and trying to help everyone toward a better life.
That said, over the years I've come to despise religion, seeing it now as a very divisive crusade and dangerous to the survival of a free democracy. And now I see some as un-American and really bordering on being domestic terrorists. It my lifetime it has become very hateful. I don't think all religious people are like that, but damn, that's the majority of what one hears anymore.
If someone tells me they are religious, I view them with caution.
