...She didn't intend to offend Sandra Fluke by suggesting that she was in fact a lesbian rather than straight? If she didn't think it would be offensive and seen as a character flaw, then why say anything at all.

I agree it is miles better than the standard "I'm sorry if I offended anyone", but not by much...
