Even if it was crap (and it often was) because the meal couldn't touch a teenage appetite, we'd be starving well before school was out and be ransacking the pantry or at the fast food joint ASAP.
The meals greatest contribution to obesity was to make constant snacking on crap a priority and promoting binge eating when you finally had access to some calories.

Perhaps per capita wasn't a good measurement. Median seems to be more representative.
