2. We have come a long way

But not all the way. There were once debates as to whether or not women had souls. And the 'rule of thumb' came from some religious scholar stating that when you beat your wife the stick should be no bigger than your thumb. It was taken for granted that women were little more than slaves to bear children, cook and clean, no higher education required.

Thank the Goddess, that along the way, somebody fought for the notion that women are people, too.
