(37,573 posts)you were creating a mocking reductio ad absurdum for the people who take their deconstructing seriously.
For those on DU who take things like the SI swimsuit issue as a great evil, and would expect to find people who would fight WITH them and against things like that, rather than mocking them and belittling their efforts.
You created what could easily be seen as a strawman, slippery slope argument. If they object to porn and object to SISI then omigosh they must also object to the Beatles, and if they did that, it would be the end of the world.
"Pornography is not made to educate, but to sell, and, for the most part, what sells in a sexist society is a bunch of lies about women and sex. Women are portrayed as enjoying being raped, spanked or beaten,; tied up, mutilated, or enslaved; or they accept it as their lot as women to be victims of such experiences. In the less sadistic films, women are portrayed as turned on and sexually satisfied by doing anything and everything that men order them to do, and what this involves is for the most part totally contrary to what we know about female sexuality; that is, it is almost totally penis-oriented, often devoid of 'foreplay', tenderness, or caring, to say nothing of love and romance."
"And how can it go on like this, senseless, entirely brutal, inane, day after day and year after year, these images and ideas and values pouring out, packaged, bought and sold, promoted, enduring on and on, and no one stops it, and our darling boy intellectuals defend it, and elegant radical lawyers argue for it, and men of every sort cannot and will not live without it. And life, which means everything to me, becomes meaningless because these celebrations of cruelty destroy my very capacity to feel and to care and to hope. I hate the pornographers most of all for depriving me of hope."
Have no idea whose words those are, they are just quotes from an old notebook of mine. A notebook where I did not bother to cite a source.
And, of course, SISI is a ways away from violent porn, but it also is basically the crass marketing of women's bodies.
