(11,649 posts)she had a corned beef sandwich and chicken soup. her husband and i had matzo ball soup with our sandwiches. they had knishes there. had i known i would have showed her one. she knows what bagels are. not sure about the bialys.
i'm in knish withdrawal. gabila's in L.I., NY had a fire back in october. the machine that fries the knishes was damaged. i just read that they finally got a new one. right now there's a country-wide shortage. about 6 years ago they started to carry them here in phoenix in the freezer department.
BTW. the nearest deli is 23 miles each way. oy vey. the only thing i miss about new york is the food. we lived in a predominantly jewish neighborhood. there were 3 jewish take out places within walking distance.
another funny story. my friend in new york is jewish. her husband is italian. when they had their son's bris she had it catered kosher. in comes her mother in law with a huge box of canoles. her son rushed her into the bedroom where they hid them under the bed.
