the one time I applied in 1995 I was told I had too many assets. Although my income qualified me for $100+ per month, the fact that I bought some land in 1987 for $4500 meant I could not get any. The thing that sorta burned me up was that I could own a $5,000 car and still qualify. At the time I owned NO car, and I still have never paid (or felt I could afford to pay) $5,000 for a car.

I owned that land until 2009 when I sold it for $22,000. I didn't really want to sell it, but they assessed it for $25,000 which raised the property taxes pretty high. My idea was to put it on the market for $25,000 and prove it was assessed too high after it didn't sell for a year. I guess the market proved me wrong.

So the land would prevent me from getting food stamps from 1987 until 2009 and after that the $20,000 cash would also prevent me from getting food stamps.
