I dated a lot of non-white women in the late 80s and through the 90s and would often get looks/stares from others - mainly from either white women or men of the race of the woman I was dating. Occasional verbal comments to one of their friends that was just loud enough for me to hear, but nothing more than that.

Now, if I'm out at the grocery store or whatever, I'll regularly see grandmothers with their mixed race children doing shopping in the store and nobody says a word.
