No need to rely on self-reported behavior surveys of 11,000 people. As pointed out, self reported behavior is not very reliable and always downplays anything perceived as a negative behavior.
McDonald's sings a different song in their press releases aimed at investors than the one aimed at regulators and health entities (June 2012):
Global comparable-store sales rose 3.3% for the month, ...
In the United States, though, McDonalds is still seeing strong growth. Comparable-store sales there climbed 4.4% in May.
