6. As a teacher at both secondary and college levels...

I can say, unequivocally, that many + or - grades are gifts from the teacher. It's like this: "You earned a C, but you were good in class and I see potential if you work harder." However, at the graduate school level it probably just means you earned the C+ and no more.
