Metro Atlanta and the rest of north Georgia remained under a wind advisory Thursday as strong winds gusting to over 40 mph hampered clean-up efforts in the wake of Wednesdays deadly tornado outbreak.
Georgia Power reported early Thursday that about 8,800 customers were still without power statewide, with 5,600 of those in metro Atlanta and 2,500 in northwest Georgia.
Terri Statham, spokeswoman for Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, said at 5:30 a.m. that the number of EMC customers without power had been reduced from 14,000 to fewer than 5,000.

We've only been under severe and threatening weather for the last 24 hours. Time to dole out the punishment while we're still freezing after a night with freezing temps and no heat!
