(5,198 posts)Alcohol is very addictive, and no one wants their pilot, brain surgeon or truck driver to be drunk either. The legalization of alcohol allows people to drink on their time off.
There are responsible drinkers and there are addicts. There are millions of responsible pot smokers across this country whose use does not in the least affect their competency on their jobs or the way they raise their children, or the way they drive.
What we are deciding to do is to allow responsible pot users to not be treated like criminals. Legalization will not increase the numbers of addicts, nor change the way drug testing is done. Pilots and surgeons will still have to be straight and sober.
The challenge with drug testing for pot is distinguishing someone who is currently under the influence of the psychoactive effects from someone who may have smoked hours ago, IMHO.
