(1,881 posts)There was a total freak out at the suggestion that that extravagant meal could have fed a few starving kids, which of course caused me to ponder the validity of so much self professed liberalism here. I can only conclude that we are truly a nation of 'meh'. Gone are the days of activism, of demanding change in the streets. We kind of care, but not enough to make a difference, since that kind of caring would demand sacrifice. Without a social safety net like they have in other civilized nations, its understandable. We kind of care about starving kids, but spending extravagantly on your pets is no big deal, since if that money were donated, it wouldn't make that much of a difference because the system is corrupted and dysfunctional and it wouldn't help 'enough'. In other words, its going to be a long, long slog to a truly socialist society.
Yes, I was being a dick back to those being hypocritical dicks. You got me. I couldn't help it.
