I still say Follow the Money.
The older I get, the more I see it's about economic class and the Congressional Republicans (and enablers) who deregulated everything FDR struggled to regulate. That masses of people were persuaded to vote against their interests is simply a stunning tribute to the power of propaganda/advertising.
