does the definition include collateral damage from drive-bys? Or non-intentional homicide as in "missed the intended and hit the victim standing next to the target"?

Beyond that I think accidental shootings and many suicides should be of equal concern to intentional homicide.

I guess what I'm concerned about is this being another "hammers kill more than guns" when the comparison is actually between all blunt trauma and rifles, a small subset of all guns.

I don't know and I'm not casting aspersion on the OP but I'm suspect of statistics that narrow definitions in what appears to be an effort to tell the truth attractively.
