Chicago is the object lesson here. Oh, how the gun nuts love to laugh and point at the misery on the South and West side of Chicago. With your tough gun laws, they laugh, why so many dead black and brown kids? Oh hardy har har! I suppose it doesn't work, pish posh.

Of course, they know perfectly well that the legal and "responsible" gun owners and sellers (of Indiana especially) are feeding the illicit market and getting rich off it. They know that it is only non-local federal provisions that can deal ultimately with the problem. They know we need tough penalties for anyone who fails to report a gun lost or stolen - the usual con job of the straw buyers - as well as detailed tracking of sales and ownership. Local laws are a good start, but we need strict enforcement of existing laws, new federal registration and tracking laws, and anti-trafficking laws in particular.
