Years ago I used to post on more conservative forums in order to discuss firearms and shooting. While I do enjoy target shooting and own a small collection of mainly handguns I am a Democrat and a liberal. What distressed me and caused me to stop posting on these forums was all the hatred toward Democrats and liberals. Now I see MANY supposedly intelligent liberals here on one of the more open minded forums on the net proving that they are as closed minded as members of conservative forums. Is there any hope for our nation if all we can do is call each other names?
It is my opinion that if both sides of the very important issue of gun control in our nation continue to sneer at each other we will make little or no progress on solving the gun violence problem. It's a lot of fun for some but is hardly productive but is instead counterproductive.
Fortunately I have a thick skin and the insults directly toward me merely bounce off. For example I don't really mind being called "feeble minded" merely because I own firearms and enjoy shooting. It is at least a somewhat original insult. However I will never trade insult for insult as I feel that that would show that I either lacked intelligence or failed to truly appreciate the level of education that I was lucky enough to receive.
I feel we can make significant headway in improving our gun control laws but first it is absolutely essential that we both sides of the issue treat each other with a minimum of respect.
