1. What you describe is typical for non-professors and instructors/asst. profs without tenure. If

you're at a university below tier 1 then things get bad very quickly.

Distance learning and adjunct professors make tenure a dream that will probably never be fulfilled unless one has a PhD in one of the Sciences or Mathematics.

A dean might advertise a position in non-STEM fields and get hundreds of applications, and the salary is less than K-12 teachers receive.

Cheer up, it's going to get worse for higher education.
