70. Our problem is, as always, our fellow citizens. We are divided by shrewd psychological techniques.

Not just media, but the way we live. Suburban or not, we are in a society that is vertically organized, not horizontally. Our livelihoods come not from neighbors or our community as we once did in rural life. We get our religion and philosophies from impersonal groups that are corrupted by the rich and powerful.

We are entertained, not by our local piano or guitar player but a commerical medium that requires repetition to make the money it does. It appears we are addicted to a lot of stuff that keeps our minds busy enough to not stand still and look at the big picture.

When I read statements like take their stuff, jail them, try them for war crimes, off wth their heads and national strike, those are solutions of th past. They came from much closer knit communities with long-standing roots in the local church, school, grange, or place of employment. We are like claymation figures being molded into what the rich want us to be and shifted around.

Families are separated by distance, unable to share living space or expenses as they once did, many of them in the search for jobs. Each job lost means a world that is lost, each move means prosperity lost for many. They are not able to help each other, instead have to pay commercial firms. We have been hollowed out not only manufacturing wise, but socially.

There are those who, like the young people at the DNC, the twins Julian and his brother were able to overcome dislocation and poverty due to the social safety net of school, food stamps, help going to college. We're working to restore that egalitarian sense of society but are being opposed to a different mindset many Democrats choose to ignore, but still exists. Am I saying it is hopeless?

No, but as author Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, All things must change to something new, to something strange.

Many of us, as Kahlil Gibran said, What is this world that is hastening me toward I know not what, viewing me with contempt?

Or as Charles Sanders Pierce said, If man were immortal he could be perfectly sure of seeing the day when every thing in which he had trusted should betray his trust, and, in short, of coming eventually to hopeless misery. He would break down, at last, as every good fortune, as every dynasty, as every civilization does. In place of this we have death.

We are approaching a clash of unbelievable proportions if we don't accept the reality of where the power lies, forgiving each other as we move along to protect the things most valuable. Those are our goals and we work toward them with old and broken down as well yet uninvented tools.

Peace Out.
