In Two Drafts of the Virginia Constitution, Thomas Jefferson seeked to include this sentence: ""No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms (within his own lands or tenements)."

The sentence didn't make it into the final draft of the Virginia Constitution. But even Jefferson had the sense to put some limits on arms.
