7. There need to be two grand compromises here...

and the president will not be the only one making one.

Yesterday's "Plan B" vote showed that the only way Boehner can get anything out of the House at-all, let alone something that the Senate or President will sign-off on will be to build a voting bloc of non-crazy Republicans and most of the Democrats. That proposal is certainly one that will be viewed here as a "fold" because we will not get everything we want...but it's a substantially better deal than we will be able to get even in the new Congress.

I'd not be surprised if there were another extension of the tax cuts (or some portion above $250K) in the deal, but there would be substantial Republican "blood on the table" in exchange. I won't be happy about it but I might be able to live with it.
