(25,114 posts)my son always was in a special ed classroom. Mostly because of behavior issues. But he knows how to read and write and he can build anything. Before the pandemic at his day program he was doing taskrabbit work and assembling furniture. He can assemble things easily from IKEA. Hes 32 and when he was diagnosed and the number of kids with autism exploded without enough qualified teachers. I used to take time off from work all the time to spend a day in his classroom and ended up helping the other kids! I usually encounter kids with autism mainstreaming but they are able to handle a regular ed class like your grandson.
Also thank you for taking on the responsibility of your grandson 🙏 ! My biggest worry is who will take care of our son when his father and I are gone. After his diagnosis and meeting several other families with multiple kids on the spectrum we didnt have another children. And I dont have any relatives who would stand up and take care of him.
