During this time of mass deportations by Trump's fascist, anti-immigrant administration, I especially remember a Mexican-American student by the name of Cristhy, who had enrolled in one of my 2016 spring semester freshman English classes at Stark State College of Technology. She was an exceptionally bright student and a very strong writer. In one of her essays, she had written candidly and movingly about her experiences as one of the Dreamers, and having grown up in constant fear of deportation for herself and her family. I hope that she is in a safe and secure place now--and shame on Congress for still having refused to protect the Dreamers and pass fair, bipartisan, and comprehensive immigration reform.
