(30,336 posts)She's conservative, but not MAGA. she finally switched to unaffiliated within the last year or so. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out whether or not there is even one reasonable republican left in congress, and the answer is no. even if they are, they are afraid.
I think it's beyond being afraid of losing their next election, it's much more existential. They are afraid that magats will destroy their personal lives. they may even be literally afraid of being killed. TCFSF wants so so much to be putin. We all know how fond putin is of having his "enemies" (most of us would call them adversaries) defenestrated or poisoned, imprisoned, beaten and tortured to death.
both of my senators are republicans and I do call thom tillis on a regular basis. i think budd is a magat to the core so, even though calling tillis may seem like a waste of time, I do it anyway hoping that 1000s of others are doing the same. I tell him that this is his chance to stand up for the USA and be great. I asked him the last time whether his fingers were crossed or he was laughing to himself the last time he took his oath of office.
If Democrats could get a few republicans with the courage to stand up for this country, they could make an impeachment stick. they could get a meeting with TCFSF and tell him you either kick elon to the curb or you will be impeached and convicted. They could turn this shit around. but they won't. i think for many if not most, they don't care about democracy, they love this. Others who do, they're scared, craven, and feckless.
we are screwed.
