Those were the days when labor still understood their true enemy. When you could find a decent wage and support a family even without going to college.

My grandfather, great grandfather and great uncle all worked for the Northwestern Railroad out of Pekin Illinois. Even now, my grandmother collects 1800 dollars a month from my grandfathers pension (he died in 2000)

It is difficult to fully comprehend how we as Americans could have forgotten so much of our own personal history in such a short time. Unions are vilified by many now. I see them as the reason my grandmother can still live with dignity as an 89 year old. Tragic really.

Grandpa always said that Ronald Reagan was the greatest enemy of the working man he had ever seen. He HATED him, back when he was in college he actually met him when he was a lifeguard during the summers (forgot the name of the town) but grandpa said even back then he was an asshole!
