(8,136 posts)16. Sebastian Gorka was White House aide while a fugitive from Hungarian justice
* Deputy assistant to president was wanted on weapons charges
* Gorka left White House after John Kelly became chief of staff
The White House employed a Hungarian fugitive for seven months, according to an arrest warrant that appears to show that Sebastian Gorka, a former adviser to Donald Trump, was wanted there on weapons charges as of September 2016.
The warrant, first reported by Hungarian online outlet 444 and BuzzFeed News is for firearm or ammunition abuse.
Gorka, a former Breitbart writer and Trump campaign surrogate, served as deputy assistant to the president during his White House tenure, but the exact nature of his role was vague. Gorka was reportedly forced out last August, by the chief of staff, John Kelly, who had recently assumed the role.
Details on the alleged crime triggered the warrant were scarce. The site 444 noted that it could have resulted from an incident as far back as 2009. Hungarian police did not respond to a request for comment.

Senators Call For Investigation Of Sebastian Gorka After Reports Surface Of Ties To Neo-Nazi Group
Failure to disclose membership in Hungarian anti-Semitic organization could invalidate Dr. Gorka's U.S. immigration status
WASHINGTONU.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) today called on the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice to investigate whether senior White House counterterrorism advisor Dr. Sebastian Gorka falsified his U.S. naturalization application by failing to disclose his membership in a Hungarian neo-Nazi organization.
According to the Forward, leaders of the Historical Vitézi Rend have identified Dr. Gorka as a member of the organization who took a lifelong oath of loyalty.
We note that this Administration has expressed a special interest in ensuring that those with extremist views do not exploit our immigration laws, the senators wrote. We are deeply concerned by reports that Dr. Gorka concealed the material fact of his membership in the Vitézi Rend, a far-right anti-Semitic Hungarian organization, when he applied for U.S. citizenship.

Sebastian Gorka May Be a Far-Right Nativist, but for Sure Hes a Terrible Scholar
Sebastian Gorka, President Donald Trumps deputy advisor on national security affairs, has emerged as an extremely visible defender of the administration on television and radio, especially on counterterrorism policy. Apart from his full-throated defense of policies such as the immigration and travel ban, Gorka likes to boast of his credentials and denigrate his predecessors, as when he told Fox News that I think the message is deadly clear to our enemies and our adversaries. We dont have a national security team made out of 28-year-old grad school students who have degrees in fictional writing. Gorka maintains that the West is locked in an existential ideological struggle with Islam a view that plays well in the Trump administration.
But Gorkas own credentials have already come under scrutiny. Before his appointment, he was not a well-known figure among terrorism experts. A report in Politico noted that several experts puzzled over the gap between the numerous military academic credentials listed by Gorka a political science Ph.D. who unfailingly uses the title Dr. and their unfamiliarity with his work and views. This dovetails with a number of reports that raise doubts about his knowledge of Islam and terrorism, as well as about his ties to Hungarian far-right groups including one, Vitezi Rend, whose members are presumed to be inadmissible to the country under the Immigration and Nationality Act and his claim to have access to confidential information within the White House, despite no confirmation that he has security clearance. The biggest concern: Despite casting himself as an expert on radical jihadi ideology, Gorka does not speak Arabic and has spent no time in the Middle East.
