But it isn't as if they were ordering in a metric ton of caviar and somehow distilling it down to a spoonful, or encouraging a vomitorium break between courses. A $20,000 bottle of wine and a $5 bottle both use about the same amount of grapes. There aren't a lot of poor people malnourished for want of gold leaf.
I'm not making light of the disgusting income inequity that exists in the world. However, this $200,000 dinner for four doesn't take food from anyone. The money, transport, and effort could certainly be spent more wisely and there is some real waste there, but the money doesn't actually disappear, it gets circulated and is no longer in the hands of the idiots who think $200,000+ meals are fun.
In summation, this is a hugely symbolic FU to the poor, but it really doesn't do much one way or the other to affect the amount of food available to the poor.
