I believe that Kamala is missing an opportunity to explain how she could lower prices. [View all]

Harris is critisized for her rhetoric that states that she will lower food prices. Critics suggest that she has no viable plan to do that, and also suggest that federal price controls are what she may implement.

I have another suggestion. The business community ALWAYS suggest that MARKETS and COMPETITION are self-regulating powers that keep prices low for consumers. This is true in an efficient market that fosters competition and restricts monopoly power.

Harris can make a case that a public policy emphasis that cracks down on price fixing and mega mergers will lower prices. Corporate profits are booming as a result of un-tethered monopoly power. As a case in point, the proposed merger of Kroger and Albertsons-Safeway would reduce competition in major grocery markets, and result in even more "food deserts" as grocers abandon neighborhoods.

The structure and legislation for these regulations already exist. Beefed up enforcement of existing law would reverse the price gouging caused when competion is stifled.
